Lone Star Elementary PTA

PTA IS YOUR PASSPORT TO SUCCESS!

Hail and Fairwell

In the military it is customary to hold a formalized ceremony when the command changes for a base or a unit. The incoming commander is hailed, or welcomed, and the outgoing commander is bid farewell.  The Lone Star PTA is very much a civilian operation, and we won’t hold a gala at or near the school with formal attire and saluting, but the Executive Board would like to take this opportunity to offer a very warm farewell and thank you to the outgoing officers, and to introduce you to the incoming PTA President and Executive Board.

If your child has come home excitedly telling you details about the following:

  • Play Day
  • Holiday Shop
  • Author Pamela Duncan and Illustrator Henry Cole
  • or show you their yearbook

..or if your child shared the details of one of the numerous cultural arts programs;  participated in their grade level program, or has begged to go to one of the dances, Family Fun Night  or Fall Festival then you and your child have been a part of the Lone Star  PTA.   You may have seen Georgette Antolik at the mike during a PTA meeting, or saw Darrin Green pumping bike tires for 3 hours, at Bike Rodeo, if so you had a tangible encounter with a PTA volunteer.  What you may not know about are the hours these parents contribute both at school and at home to enrich the lives of the children, families and staff members at Lone Star. There is a team (can we call them an army?) of warm hearted, detail oriented parents who care deeply for their children and yours and work diligently to improve the academic performance of the students, expand their physical fitness and cultural opportunities, and enhance the morale of both the staff and student body.  Thanks to ALL of the volunteers and leaders who contributed to make the 2009/2010 school year a success!

The outgoing President of the PTA has served the past 2 years making numerous trips to the school for PTA business. In addition to holding a full time job, parenting 2 children involved in numerous extracurricular activities, Georgette Antolik has given VERY much of herself as President of the PTA and has been an involved member over the past 5 years her children have attended Lone Star. Before serving as President Georgette served the PTA as  Corresponding Secretary and will serve as Recording Secretary this coming year! Thank you for all your hard work Georgette!!

The incoming President of the PTA brings an enormous amount of energy and creativity to the Lone Star PTA along with a fabulous attention to detail to keep volunteers organized, imaginative and focused.  Amy Barker has 2 children and has been a parent at Lone Star Elementary for 7 years (with 4 more to go!). She has helped in almost every area of the PTA, most notably planning Fall Festival  for the past 3 years. She has served as Vice President, Programs, Corresponding Secretary, Yearbook chairperson, 2nd Vice President, Membership and Historian.  Amy has spent the last few weeks recruiting interested parents, and gearing up for the coming school year.  WELCOME Amy and the following Executive Board members!!

  • Darrin Green  - returning Vice President ( Programs)
  • Sally Blossey  - returning Treasurer
  • Georgette Antolik  -  Recording Secretary
  • Laura Herndon - VP  Ways and Means ( fundrasing)
  • Jeanette Hill- VP Membership
  •  Susan Stewart - returning Corresponding Secretary

Best wishes for a relaxing and energizing summer Lone Star families!
